The Great CAmerican Roadtrip : There and Back Again - Day 2

Day two of the Great CAmerican Road trip has quickly passed.  We are in the Nation's Capital after a long day on the worn paths of the Appalachian Mountains.

Our time on the road was rather non-eventful except for the Clampett sighting somewhere near West Virginia.

We left the area with a very favorable impression.  It is a beautiful place, and if you ever have a reason to drive up I-81, take it.  You may even want to find time to stop by the Purgatory Emporium in Buchanan, VA to kill a few hours.

Once arriving in D.C., we quickly made our way through the Air and Space Museum.  In a word, it was unbelievable.  If I have to come back for one reason, it would be to spend more time in that, and all of the Smithsonian Museums.

Our trusty tourist map directed us to a hip area of town called Adams Morgan for some grub.  By this time, the hunger was setting in.

A quick and easy ride on the Metro followed by a short walk to the neighborhood revealed a plethora of bars, shops, and restaurants.

Much deliberation led us to Bossa Bistro, which was just what the doctor ordered.  Delicious Food and much needed beer filled our souls.  On our way back to the Mall, we passed all the kids heading to Adams Morgan for a Saturday night on the town.  We are getting older by the second.

To walk off our food babies from our delicious meal, we took a jaunt around the White House and National Mall.

We will return here tomorrow on our morning run, but D.C. at night is breathtaking.

And the Washington Monument is not that tall.

Overall, it was a glorious day.  Washington D.C. has left a very positive impression.  Aside from the politics and unethical things that may go on in this town, the history, culture, and architecture will keep us coming back.  Off to bed, for tomorrow is our nice little drive into NYC.
Quote of the Day:  As Natalie searched endlessly for her pencil to write down one of our 24 state license plates that we saw today, she realized that her writing utensil was behind her ear.  How, you ask?  In her words, "I heard it jiggle up there."

  1. Air and Space is amazing. I've been there several times and it is the number one place i Love to go to in DC.

The planes that broke Mach 1 and Mach 2 hang there as does one of the remaining four Japanese Zeros in the world.
