The Great CAmerican Roadtrip - Day 0

So here we sit, the day before our highly anticipated Great CAmerican road trip.  Our last minute shopping is done, and our bags are semi-packed.  This is the trip that we discussed in the early days of our relationship, just a year and a half ago.  This is the trip that will take us on a whirlwind tour up the Eastern Seaboard of the United States and eventually across to Ontario, Canada.  This is the trip...

...we may be getting a little ahead of ourselves here.

The "we" that I mention refers to Phillip and Natalie (the Phi-Natics, get the highly intelligent wordplay?)  We are a relatively young couple that have a tendency to engage in some lengthy road trips.  The majority of these travels occur for special events and often happen over weekends.  Twenty four hours of driving over a two day stretch is not out of the question.  It might sound a bit crazy to you, but it is who we are.  A couple of twenty somethings driving for a little meaning in our lives, when all we really need is each other and the open road.

Have I lost you yet?  I'll try to lay off the philosophical mushy stuff for now.

This particular road trip begins tomorrow evening after Natalie concludes her week teaching Summer Art Camp and I shut out the lights of my electrical contractor's office in Atlanta.  For the next ten days, those lights will remain dim and Natalie's kids will be without their skillful textiles teacher.  We have our plans to hit the big sights up the East Coast including DC, NYC, Boston, and Niagara.  I have a feeling that the stretches in between will be where the memories will be made and the excitement will happen.  For every one thing that we have planned, I hope there will be a hundred that we don't.  Stay tuned to this blog, for tomorrow we ride into Day 1.  Destination: Bryson City, NC.
